Vintage Star Searchers ZERIC - (Zaidam / Shaider)
European Boxed Edition | 1984 Die-Cast Figure by Bandai / Popy
Officially licensed by TOEI, Made in Japan
Suit up and scan the stars with this rare 1984 boxed release of ZERIC, the blue android scout from The Star Searchers line—an alternate European release of Space Sheriff Shaider from the beloved Metal Heroes tokusatsu series produced by Toei.
Released by Bandai Japan and localized for the European market, Star Searchers rebranded iconic characters from the Uchuu Keiji (Space Sheriff) universe for international audiences. This particular version of Zeric represents Shaider in die-cast form, outfitted in a highly detailed, chromed armor suit with battery-powered light and sound features that still work.

Packaging Highlights
This edition comes boxed and carded, complete with stunning 80s sci-fi artwork on all sides. The flap cover opens like a book, revealing the figure behind a clear plastic window alongside a stylized radar grid. Inside, the inner tray holds Zeric snugly in place, with original foam and banding present.
The back of the box tells a simplified lore:
“ZERIC and NAMROOD are the android probes sent to seek out new planets in the distant galaxy. They communicate with pulsing lights and sound, and send secret messages using the power button on the back of the robot.”
This is a vintage Euro sci-fi relic, where presentation mattered just as much as playability.
Collector’s Insight
-
Part of the 1980s Metal Heroes boom, ZERIC is based on Uchuu Keiji Shaider, the final entry in Toei’s Space Sheriff trilogy, aired in Japan from 1984–1985.
-
This European edition was never released under the Shaider name, making it a rare rebranded item that flew under the radar of many collectors—until now.
-
Highly sought after due to its die-cast construction, working electronics, and non-standard packaging, it remains a crown jewel for fans of Tokusatsu, Bandai Europe, or 80s robot toys in general.

-

Whether you’re a die-hard Metal Heroes fan, a Space Sheriff Shaider loyalist, or just nostalgic for that glorious chrome-meets-radar 80s aesthetic—Zeric is the one to bring home.
